Beginner - Learnign To Play The Drums P I
nível sem nível
Welcome to learning to play the drums (I am aware I completely misspelled the name)
here you will, of course, learn to play the drums. These lessons are sopposed to help you get better at keeping timing and keep your rythm flowing. But no one
(unless you have a friend around) is helping you with this, so do your best. You MUST
master evry tab on these lessons before moving on or you might or probably wont
understand the next part. I recommend teching yourself every lesson a day or two
apart from eachother, thats why their divided into parts.
This first lesson here (Just part 1 and some of Part 2) are For people who just
started drumming or dont know how to. If you already know what your doing, you should
probably go to Part 3, With funky beats and bass work-outs.
So heres Learning how to play drums

PART I
Learning to play

Now to be able to play the drums, you must first know the signs. Go over this first

H or HH - Hi-hat     o-hi cymbal or hi-hat closed
S - Snare Drum       x-hit drum
B - Bass Drum

There will be a lot more of these to learn later, but you just need this for now.
And also, some people put the X's and O's reversed in there tabs (the xs would be
in the hihat part and the Os in drums) so just reverse the meaning of them.
_____________________________________________________________________________________
This is sort of what your setup should look like. I did the best i could do.
NOTE: Put the Cymbals in any way you want. This is just my setup.
                        ~~~
                       |12 |                  Drums (boxed)
            ~~~~   _____~~~_____             1-snare drum (usually right in froun of you)
           { 11 } |     | |     |            2-smaller tom tom
           {    } |  2  | |  3  |            3-bigger tom tom
            ~~~~   _____   _____             4-floor tom
                 _____
                |     |            ____{~~~~~} cymbals (in squigglies)
           ~~~~ |  1  |          |     {  13 }10-hi-hat (Might be farther in toward your snare drum)
          {    } _____           |  4  {~~~~~} 11-Crash cymbal
          { 10 }                 |      |    12-splash cymbal or one bigger than 20"
           ~~~~                   ______     13-Ride cymbal (usually the smallest)
If you have one tom tom, then that would just be number 2 in the graph. The Ride
Cymbal, #13, should take the place of tom tom #3. Some tips for a good set-up are
to Put the ride cymbal to your right in an open spot (youll see why in part XI),
Put the crash near your hi-hat since it is usually hit the most, and dont have your
drums far apart or itll be hard to move around
_____________________________________________________________________________________
So first, make the constant beat. To do this, put your fott down on your hi-hat pedal
so when you hit the hi-hat it makes a quick chip noise and then do this tab
H|o---o---o---o---|o---o---o---o---
S|----------------|----------------    4th notes
B|----------------|----------------
  1   2   3   4    1   2   3   4
Too easy.. Now add the beat without stopping from hitting the hi-hat
H|o---o---o---o---|o---o---o---o---
S|----x-------x---|----x-------x---     4th notes
B|x-------x-------|x-------x-------
  1   2   3   4    1   2   3   4
For complete starters, the most common problems i see in these is that you dont
hit the hi-hat when you hit the snare drum. You probably dont even know your
doing this when you play but it is very common. If you have a friend around, tell
him to watch and make sure you are hitting the hi hat while you hit the snare.
     You need to now double the hitting of the hi-hat, but you still just need one
hand to hit the hi hat,so dont use two
H|o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-|o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-
S|----x-------x---|----x-------x---      8th notes
B|x-------x-------|x-------x-------
  1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +  1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +
Then, double both the hi-hat and the drums up
H|o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-|o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-
S|--x---x---x---x-|--x---x---x---x-     8th notes
B|x---x---x---x---|x---x---x---x---
  1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +  1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +
Those above are the most common beats you will find in drumming. If you have trouble
with the 8th notes, slow down and play them. Speed in your drumming (right now)
dosnt matter as much as it will when your really playing.
This next part is called triplets. It's simply three beats instead of four. You
Probably won't see this much in tabs on this site, but it's still good to know
H|o--o--o--|o--o--o--|
S|---x-----|x-----x--|
B|x-----x--|---x-----|
  1  2  3   1  2  3
And finally, the last basic beat in this part is the shuffle beat. this is played in
8th notes, but there is a quarter rest between each two notes. Since i cant put the
quarter rest sign in, ill try to tab it out how it sounds. This will probably be a
lot harder.
H|o--o-o--o-o--o-o--o-|o--o-o--o-o--o-o--o-|
S|-----x---------x----|-----x---------x----|
B|x---------x---------|x---------x---------|
  1  d 2  d 3  d 4  d  1  d 2  d 3  d 4  d
If you didnt know, d means da, since beats go 1 da + da 2 da + da 3...
And thats it for part 1. The rest of the basics are finished on part 2. Rate this on
how much helped you out
I suggest if you have a hard time reading these tabs like i do, you could copy
and paste this to Microsoft Excel and make it bigger. I usually do that when
i actually do print out drum tabs.
